MIDLAND CITY AL: 1:17 PM This morning a suspect wanted in Houston County on felony arrest warrants for failure to appear on charges of Unlawful Manufacturing of a Controlled Substance.
As the house was being checked the suspect came out of the shrubs next to the house from under a tarp that was on the ground. The suspect had a 9mm handgun in his hands and a ski mask on. The suspect then fled into the woods behind the house.
The suspect is white male Jesse James Mathis. The location of the incident was Oak Street in Midland City.
Midland City Police, Dale County Sheriff Deputies to include Chief Deputy Mason Bynum responded after the suspect fled into the woods. As they were arriving and responding Dale County Sheriff helicopter responded. Dothan Police K-9 units responded and Alabama Department of Law Enforcement - Trooper Division responded and assisted.
The suspect was tracked to a residence on Delta Street in Midland City where he fled before officers surrounded the house.
Law Enforcement Officers found a 9mm handgun believed to be one the suspect dropped or threw down.
Jesse James Mathis, age 34, white male, white male, 5'10, 195 pounds, brown hair and hazel eyes, and is considered armed and dangerous.
If anyone knows his whereabouts please contact the local law enforcement. The arrest warrants are out of Houston County Circuit Court where Mathis failed to appear for trial.
