DOTHAN:    6:30 PM    Ladies and Gentleman... allow me the distinct pleasure and opportunity to introduce you to the 2019 - until, City Manager for Dothan Alabama.

We will welcome in the next couple of weeks Mr. Kevin Cowper as the Mayor and Commissioner’s selection for City Manager.

Mr. Cowper has served the citizens of Auburn Alabama as an Assistant City Manager since 2007. In that position Mr. Cowper oversaw planning, public works, enviornmental services, and water resources. Mr. Cowper’s work also included the budget for Auburn Alabama.

Auburn Alabama’s estimated population is 60,000. The 2017 population of Dothan Alabama is 68,202. Both cities are comparable in size.

Cowper has been quoted as saying that he likes to talk through issues. He has a calm demanor. Cowper has been quoted as saying that while a city is doing good he always strives for what they can do better.

Cowper has been the front runner several times for City Manager’s in other cities. Cowper said if selected as City Manager he would "take things slowly, grown into the position, focus on building relationships, credibility and trust.

In 2011 Cowper turned down the City Manager of Vestavia Hills Alabama. That city offered Cowper a salary of $ 135,000.00 a year. Cowper was quoted as saying he would not take the job for less than $ 148,000.00 and turned down Vestavia Hills.

In 2017 Cowper was one of the two finalists for City Manager in Dunedin Florida. The Dunedin Council did not select Cowper.

This is the selection that Dothan Mayor Mark Saliba and Dothan’s six commissioners will select KEVIN COWPER as the 2019 Dothan City Manager. A few issues are still up to be resolved with Mr. Cowper and the Commission. But unless things change, of which they are not expected to, Mr. Cowper will be "the man".

Former Dothan City Manager Mike West , April the Mayor and Commissioners December 31, 2018 he was retiring. The clock struck and the Dothan Officials had not selected a City Manager. So they entered into a professional services contract with Mike West to be the contract City Manager through April 30, 2019. This contract City Manager only required West to work two days a week but to always be available for phone calls.

The Mayor and most commissioners have been in Washington D.C. this week for the National League of Cities meeting.

The Mayor and Commissioners meet at 10 AM on March 19, April 2, and April 16. The meetings are at 10 AM in the Dothan Civic Center. At this time RSN does not know which of the three meetings the "official" announcement will occur.

NOTE:     This information has not been confirmed by the Dothan Mayor or members of the Dothan Commission. But I know because, well, they can not keep many secrets from me. LOL. Many a dollar has been spent by prior Mayor and Commissioners attempting to find out how I know. So far, no success. 

Like to say THANKS to Jack Mason, Director of the City of Dothan Information Technology Department. The Mayor and Commissioners were using the City EMAIL account until I broke the last three finalists. Then they started using the personal email in the discussion of the City Manager. But one of them forgot...and used his city email. Dothan's Information Technology has access to all of those EMAILS.
