HOUSTON COUNTY:     A church service has so many "behind the scene" people to make things happen.

Obviously you have the Pastor and Minister of Music. Along with those, a few more "mandatory" people in places of service. Those are normally the ones playing the piano, organ, and the sound person.

BUT...normally there is a choir. Add live music instead of CD's, you have organ, electric keyboard, guitars, and drums.

Then you have videographer, computer person for the screens for the music words and sermon outline.

The ushers. Those who welcome people as they arrive on the church campus. The nursery, preschool and children's worship.

The Sunday School Director and Sunday School teachers.

The one who opens the church campus, making sure all doors are unlocked/locked, lights on/off, heat/air is on and operational.

MEMPHIS BAPTIST CHURCH

The nursery of Memphis Baptist Church is managed by the third generation of family members.

For decades Mr. Harmon and Mrs. Mildred Battles have managed the nursery. Mr. Harmon is looking down from heaven and Mrs. Mildred continues to serve in the nursery. I have been at Memphis Baptist Church for 30 plus years. They were in the nursery when I started.

The Battles daughter and son in law, Haisten and Edna McCardle managed the nursery. Mr. Haisten is looking down from heaven as Mrs. Edna and Mrs. Mildred continue serving the Lord and Memphis Baptist Church in the nursery.

The McCardles daughter, Kristie Lee started in the nursery. Sometimes Krisitie drags her husband Heath to help. Kristie's sister Wendy and her husband David Williams also helps in the nursery.

So for more then well over 30 years, and many - many - many children later, what Harmon and Mildred Battles started in church service continues through the generations of their family.

This past Sunday I was on the video camera and live streamed the church service. For a minute I looked around and those serving just in the church service.

The Pastor. The Minister of Music. The Associate Pastor(s). The instrumentalists - piano, keyboard, organ, drums, acoustic guitar, bass guitar, electric guitar, the computer, the sound operator, the "producer" as I call him and who makes the video audio sound right - as well as the microphones checked, new batteries, in place...all sound systems on go, the video operator, the ushers (10 ), the choir ( 30 - 40 ), the Praise Team (5 to 6 ), the church Financial and Administrative Secretary.

This does not include the host of others which serve in various capacities. But as you can see, there are a lot of people who are behind the scenes, people you don't see, working to make the worship experience a true worship experience.

Always a place to serve in the church. Get plugged in, serve, and worship a True and Living GOD.

UPWARD BASKETBALL

Tonight Memphis Baptist Church was host to a lot of young people and parents as the UPWARD basketball season gets kicked off.

The church invited the players and parents to come eat. To get information and get prepared for when UPWARD practices and games begin.

Most churches have programs and activities. Memphis Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Jim and Mrs. Judith Tate, the members and guests are truly blessed by their leadership. While Brother Jim is the Pastor - behind every good man you will find a good woman. In Jim Tate's case...a GREAT WOMAN by his side as he serves as Pastor.

Memphis Baptist Church welcome you.

THEY LEFT MY NAME OUT WHEN THEY CALLED HIM

The Pastor search committee did not tell Jim Tate that Rickey Stokes was a member of Memphis Baptist Church until after he accepted being Pastor. If they had of...he surely would have deserved higher compensation.

JUST KIDDING...sorta

No, Brother Jim is a humble, faithful servant and his leadership as Pastor has been great. My family was in a troubled time between when he accepted the position and started. Brother Jim drove over specifically to minister to our family and had not even started.

He and Rick Glenn, as the entire church staff, look after their flock at Memphis.
