CITY OFFICIALS CLOSE RECYCLING CONVENIENCE SITES
City of Dothan Public Works Director, Charles Metzger, announced today effective immediately, the four recycling convenience sites have been closed. Located at Dothan Utilities, the Eastside Fire Station #5, Westgate Park and North Cherry Street, the drop-off locations have been shut down due to abuse by residents using the recycling program.
With the closing of the four locations, city officials are finalizing a plan to open two, manned drop-off recycling locations that will be secured with gates and cameras to be located at the City Landfill on Burkett Road and the Armory at Westgate Park. The plan is to operate during normal business hours, but that hasn’t been confirmed. The site will accept sorted uncontaminated cardboard, office paper and aluminum.
The current curbside recycling program will undergo an overhaul after the first of the year, but until then, residents are encouraged to continue recycling in the blue recycling bin or cart as usual until further notice.
