Coroner Candidate: "We Need to Prevent Deaths"

In addition to performing the necessary and required duties of the Coroner’s Office;

if Eddie Ingram is elected my plans are to:

1) Create a ‘Prevention & Education Team’ comprised of law enforcement, EMT, Fire Department and Medical Personnel along with community members who have had to cope with the accidental death, suicide or overdose death of a family member. PET will be utilized to help educate and prevent adolescent suicide, overdose deaths and boldly inform our youth about the dangers of drunk/drugged driving, texting and other inattentive driving. PET will be very active in Houston County and available to present the “prevention and educational program” in our schools, churches and for any other group that request it.

As your Coroner, I will do everything humanly possible to help educate our youth and decrease the number of adolescents who overdose, commit suicide and are killed in vehicle accidents every year here in Houston County, Alabama.

2) Create a ‘Crisis Management Team’ comprised of area clergy and grief counselors. CMT will be available to assist grieving family members and/or friends that may need help coping with the death of a loved one.

3) Create a ‘Personal Contact Team’ comprised of area clergy and community volunteers. PCT, if necessary, will remain in constant contact with individuals who have lost a loved one and has no other support network. (Example: Elderly or handicap person who, after a spouse’s death, suddenly find themselves alone with no family or able-body friends to assist them.)

4) Create a ‘Case Review Team’ comprised of current and/or former law enforcement investigators and pathologist to assist in reviewing details and evidence of any case deemed suspicious or undetermined where more investigative opinions into the cause of death may be warranted. CRT will act independently of a Coroner’s Inquest.

If elected, I will have these Teams organized and ready to implement the day I am sworn into office. I will be personally involved with each Team to ensure they are successful and have the outreach effect needed. I also want to personally THANK each of you who have already shown interest in volunteering your services on these Teams.

We need to prevent deaths, not investigate them!
