DOTHAN: This morning Dothan Mayor Mike Schmitz and members of the Dothan Commission named Dothan Police Major Steve Parrish as Dothan Police Chief.
Parrish will officially take over as Chief on May 1. Until then Greg Benton will serve as Dothan Police Chief.
Parrish has been with the Dothan Police Department for 31 years. The last 5 years he has served as Major of the Department. Major is a position which answers directly to the Police Chief. As Major, Parrish has been responsible for all of the day to day operations of the department.
Parrish is a honest man who is very family oriented. He has a strong work ethic and expects honest and professionalism from within the department. Parrish is a good money manager, good law enforcement officer, who understands the role of law enforcement. Parrish can back off from a situation, analyze and then move forward into attempting to solve the problem.
In fact, lat week Parrish set up meetings with the Dothan School system to address the problems at Honeysuckle Middle School and other schools. Parrish did not wait on the appointment of Chief to begin solutions to the problems.
Parrish will be a chief who is approachable by the community. From all walks of life, Parrish will be the Chief for all.
This morning, Parrish received the recomendation from Dothan City Manager Mike West to Dothan Commission. The vote was 6 - 1, Newsome opposed, that Parrish be the Police Chief.
The chambers was packed with members of the Dothan Police Department in support of Parrish.
NOTE:
The photo was several weeks ago. I heard Major Parrish make a traffic stop. A truck had a rope with a hook dragging the ground. Parrish was in fear that the truck would cross the railroad tracks and get the hook caught and then cause something major. But it goes ot show, Parrish is comfortable in the office or in the field.
LOL...they did not know I was around!!!
