Enterprise High School to open as shelter at 6:00 PM Sunday evening (September 10, 2017).
*NOTE* Previously announced safe havens in Coffee County, specifically the First Baptist Church Enterprise and Elba Church of Christ, will not be utilized at this time.
Due to the increased threat for tropical storm force winds, Enterprise High School will open as a shelter at 6:00 PM Sunday evening. There is room for approximately 120 people at the shelter. At this time, the shelter will remain open until Tuesday morning at 8:00 AM. The shelter should be utilized by anyone needing to stay out of the weather. Damaging winds are forecasted for our area beginning Sunday evening and lasting through Monday evening. Residents in mobile homes, any other residents with concerns, and evacuees in campers should consider seeking shelter at Enterprise High School until the threat is over.
The location of Enterprise High School is 1801 Boll Weevil Circle, Enterprise, AL 36330. Cots will be available. No pets, weapons, illegal drugs or alcohol allowed. Intoxicated individuals are subject to be turned away. Please do not arrive before 6:00 PM on Sunday as we will not be prepared to assist you.
Other notable closures:
--The Coffee County landfill will be closed Monday and will reopen Tuesday if the weather and roads situation allow.
--The Tire Processing Center will be closed Monday and is scheduled to reopen Tuesday at noon.
--Residential garbage collection will not operate Monday or Tuesday. All collections will shift two days and will run Wednesday through Saturday. Please do NOT place your containers curb side until Tuesday evening or early Wednesday morning.
