Alabama hospitals scored about the same this spring at preventing infections, surgery problems and other safety issues compared to fall 2017, according to the healthcare watchdog group Leapfrog. The nonprofit assigns letter grades to more than 2,600 general acute-care hospitals across the country twice a year. The grade is based on 30 performance measures recommended by a panel of medical experts. These measures include handwashing and adequate staffing of physicians and nurses. Surveys help determine the quality of interactions patients receive with hospital staff.
