Georiga Man Arrested on Multiple Charges

On November 9^th, 2017 at approximately 10:32am, officers with the Marianna Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a white in color, BMW X3 for a speeding violation on Penn Avenue. Upon officers activating their emergency lights on South Street, the BMW accelerated and began to flee.

Officers pursued the BMW down South Street until the BMW turned onto Eva Mae Street. The BMW continued and turned onto Oak Street, then Booker Street, and continuing to Cedar Street. The BMW then turned onto Washington Street where the BMW came to a stop.

The driver of the BMW exited the vehicle and engaged the officers in a foot pursuit. Officers pursued the fleeing driver across Orange Street into a wooded lot. Officers were able to apprehend the driver without incident. Officers were able to identify the driver of the BMW as Jason Swilley, of Lithonia, Georgia. 

Officers began canvassing the area where Swilley fled. Officers were able to locate a package that appeared to be that of packaged narcotics. After further investigation, officers determined the package to be compressed marijuana which was packaged for distribution. The total weight of the marijuana was in excess of one pound. Officers were also able to recover another plastic bag containing marijuana which had a total weight of thirty two grams.

Swilley was charged with the above mentioned charges and transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance.

Charges: -Fleeing and Attempting to Elude

                -Resist Officer without Violence

                -Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute Within 1000ft of  a Daycare

               -Driving While License Suspended/ Knowingly
