HOUSTON COUNTY: Today marked a first, the Houston County Sheriff’s Office now has a bloodhound tracking dog on every shift. Sheriff Valenza said he was proud that now that his department has the capability to respond a k-9 on every shift.
Sheriff Valenza stated that when looking for a missing person seconds count. This will be a huge asset to help look for the elderly, young children and for suspects. Sheriff Valenza also spoke about the Find-M-Friends program. This program also saves time when looking for a missing person. The Find-M-Friends program is free and has been a great success for the last five years.
The president of the Find-M-Friends Program; Linda Bales explained how the program works and how it will cut down on the amount of time it takes to deploy the K-9s on the rack. Bales who is also a volunteer for the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office work K-9 Tracking dogs and helps get them to the departments that need them. The have helped with furnishing all the blood hounds to the Houston County Sheriff Office at no cost to the department.
