You know, I will fight you about the paid and unpaid EMS, Fire and law enforcement. And there is no difference between the dedication and loyalty of PAID and UNPAID EMS, Fire and Law Enforcement.
And furthermore, there is no difference between county boundaries. Each county will cross the lines to assist other agencies when needed. We are fortunate with the EMS - Fire and Law Enforcement.
In Alabama, Florida and Georgia the Sheriff’s work great together. They exchange ideas and information and each has the others back. Just as Dale County did last night when Geneva County needed to house some inmates. Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson took them in.
The same goes for the Fire, ,EMS and EMA agencies. They all work together and have each other’s backs.
At this time I will not mention the agency. But one fire/EMS Agency is discussing stopping making EMS runs to a community which joins theirs but is in another county.
The overtime has gotten out of hand and they have lost volunteerism. But the reason is simple - MANAGEMENT. The Mayor apparently does not know how to manage volunteers or the paid staff. He has lost the interest of those in the community in being interested in volunteering their time.
That Mayor needs some lessons in how you treat people and how to work well with others. When and if it happens, I will identify the Mayor who is being a failure and risking the lives and safety of others.
It is his management, or lack thereof that is caused overtime to be out of hand. It is his management, or lack thereof, and his lack of respect for the men and women who put their time in that has caused him a backlash. A lot of the people of the community are unaware of his failure because tragedy has not struck. But when it does, when he pulls his response to help those who help his city, I will call him out.
So this is a message.... show leadership, management and respect and they will return that.
