Murder Charges DISMISSED By 20th Judicial Circuit Judge Mike Conaway

HOUSTON COUNTY:     On Monday 20th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Mike Conaway dismissed murder charges against Brandon Alan Ransom.

Represented by Attorney John John Steensland and Attorney Jim Parkman in the murder case.

Ransom was charged with the July 30, 2016 murder of Christopher Bailey. The death of Bailey was with a pistol at the lounge on Montgomery Highway and Blackshear Street. 

Bailey turned himself into the Dothan Police Department on August 1, 2016. Bailey was placed in the Dothan City Jail and then transferred to the Houston County Jail. Bailey remained in the Houston County Jail on a $ 500,000.00 bond until March 22, 2017 when Judge Conaway set a bond of $ 125,000.00 for Bailey.

The murder case was set for trial on several occasions and was continued. This case was set for trial this past Monday. The murder case was first up.

The prosecutor’s office ( 20th Judicial District Attorney Office - Pat Jones ) has two investigator’s employed to locate witnesses. The two investigators are Jay Henry and Jay Calhoun. ( NOTE:  Henry is seeking election as Henry County Sheriff. Henry defeated Calhoun for Henry County Sheriff. After the election Calhoun was hired as investigator for the 20th Judicial Circuit District Attorney Office by Pat Jones. Henry is running against Incumbent Henry County Sheriff Will Maddox, who is seeking his fourth term as Henry County Sheriff. )

However key witnesses for the prosecution were not able to be located and the Murder charges were dismissed by 20th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Mike Conaway.

So Brandon Alan Ransom is a free man and the murder charges are dismissed in the 20th Judicial Circuit Court.

Bladen testified how the police investigation showed Ransom fatally shot 26-year-old Christopher “Chris” Bailey during an ambush as he walked back to his car outside the Plum’s Lounge nightclub located on Montgomery Highway. He said police responded to what was initially reported as a critical firearm assault outside the nightclub during the early morning hours of Saturday, July 30. After police arrived, the victim was found dead in the parking lot.

Bladen said the victim suffered seven gunshot wounds during the shooting, including one to the head, two to the back, two more to the chest, and another to the arm and leg.

“The attack was unprovoked and he could not defend himself,” Bladen said.
