Ramsey Receives Community Pediatrician AwardMatt Boster

DOTHAN: Michael J. Ramsey, MD, FAAP, pediatrician and shareholder at Dothan Pediatric Healthcare Network was presented with the 2017 American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) 2017 Council on Community Pediatrics Local Hero Award on September 19 at the 2017 AAP National Conference and Exhibition in Chicago, IL. Dr. Ramsey is the outgoing Immediate Past President of the Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
The award recognizes pediatricians who epitomize the “community pediatrician,” leading community action and advocacy for children in local communities, and who do several of the following: promote child health within all environments such as the community, school, and family; collaborate with community partners to address population-based child health issues and promote health equity; advocate for children who lack access to healthcare and other resources; and, implement public health approaches to advance the health of all children in the community.
Nominations are open to the almost 67,000 pediatricians in the AAP and physicians must be nominated by their peers, with letters of support written by colleagues and patients

According to Phyllis Helms, administrator of Dothan Pediatric Healthcare Network, Dr. Ramsey has led local efforts to save healthcare for all of Alabama’s children since 2012.
