Retail Theft Lands Two in Jail

On 8/25/2017 at approximately 9:03 am, The Marianna Police Department received a report of Retail Theft from the Grocery Outlet. The caller gave a brief description of two females with several packs of steaks inside their back pack.


Upon officer’s arrival in the area, two females fitting the description were observed walking with a black male east on Lafayette St. approximately one block west of the Grocery Outlet. The arriving officer then made contact and attempted to identify the subjects. The male subject gave a false name and date of birth when identifying himself. One female subject identified herself as a juvenile. The second as Jalisha Shivers.


Upon review of the security video the two females were observed walking down an isle while placing several packs of meat into their book bag. As the officer was informed of this information, he conducted a search of the bag and did in fact locate several packs of meat totaling approximately $45.00.


 As the officer was conducting the search of the back pack, the male subject fled from the scene. Another arriving officer took chase and was able to stop the subject in the area of Orange St. just south of Hwy 90. As the officer approached the subject, he was repeatedly given verbal commands to stop. The subject continued to ignore the officer’s command. It was at this time the officer used a non lethal dart firing stun gun in an attempt to apprehend and detain the subject.


While doing so the subject became aggressive and swung with a closed fist at the officer. The officer then again advised the subject that if he did not comply he would be tased a second time. The subject then complied and was taken into custody. The subject was identified as Louis Christopher Turner, who in fact had a warrant for his arrest. Turner was placed under arrest and later transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility.


The two females were placed under arrest and charged with retail theft. Jalisha Shivers was charged additionally with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
