Tonight we had a special request at the Slocomb City Council Meeting. Carmen Pennell came to thank Slocomb Fire-Rescue’s Chief of Operations/Paramedic Kyle Hovey, Firefighter/Advanced EMT Taylor Lee and Advanced EMT Heather Thomas for responding to her after suffering from respiratory failure. The crew, led by Chief Hovey, performed ALS procedures to keep Mrs. Pennell alive. She was intubated (an airway tube put in place) and was in intensive care for 2 days before making a recovery. Mrs. Pennell was accompanied by her son. *Note* This was posted with the patients permission. ** Additionally we appreciate The City of Slocomb, The Town of Malvern and the Geneva County Commission for subsidizing our budget for 24/7 EMS staffing. Mrs Pennell lives 9 miles from our EMS station in Rural Geneva County . EMS and fire response in rural Alabama is important. We urge Wiregrass Elected officials to follow our elected officials lead in funding on duty Fire and EMS response personnel.
