On December 14, 2017, an Officer with the Bonifay Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle with an expired license plate. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and proceeded to run two stop signs before turning east onto Bonifay-Chipley Road.  The pursuit continued onto Cope Road and into Jackson County. A pit maneuver was executed at the intersection of Satellite Road and Tri-County Airport Road.

The driver of the 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe was identified as Dustin Royce Brown, a white male, age 36, of Chipley, Florida.  Brown was arrested for an outstanding warrant in Washington County for DWLSR and is facing additional charges at first appearance of Willful and Wanton Reckless Driving, Flee and Attempt to Elude a marked patrol car, Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine), Possession of a Controlled Substance (Xanax) and DWLSR.  The vehicle had been entered as stolen by the Bay County Sheriff’s Office.  Brown was transported to the Jackson County Jail to await first appearance.

Chief Chris Wells stated that he greatly appreciates the assistance rendered by the Holmes, Washington and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office(s) and the Chipley Police Department for their assistance in the pursuit and subsequent arrest. Wells stated, “I greatly appreciate the manpower and assistance provided by all agencies.

We have to work together to get the job done and this case is a good example of cooperation among our neighboring agencies.  Sheriff Tate, Sheriff Crews and Sheriff Roberts were all on-scene along with myself and assisted with the case. I cannot express my appreciation enough for the assistance rendered by their agencies.”
