DOTHAN: On Saturday morning you could see Sgt. Ben Jimmerson, his cousion Brad Jimmerson, Sgt. Sims and friend, along with Sgt. Jimmerson's dad along Ross Clark Circle.
The TRIBUTE started and ended in the parking lot of Planet Fitness. The route traveled along Ross Clark Circle. Dad Jimmerson followed along in the Jeep.
Sgt. Ben Jimmerson just completed a nine month deployment. He has been home for 14 days.
Dressed in uniform, the three, later joined by a fourth, walked the entire Ross Clark Circle carrying an American Flag. The tribute was to display the real reason for Memorial Day.
A tribute to all of those who have served, those like Jason Barfield and Otis Whitehurst which gave the ultimate sacrifice, their life, and to those who are currently serving.
My son in law is one of those currently serving on active deployment in the United States Marines, Josh Fails of Cottonwood.
Sgt. Jimmerson placed two 25 pound weights in his back pack and carried those weights on the entire walk around the circle. At one point an older lady who will be having knee surgery got out and walked a distance with them. That was in honor of those in her family who served.
Houston County Sheriff Deputy Frank Bissette and Lt. Ivey along with Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management Director Chris Judah joined part of the walk escorting the military walkers making sure they were safe.
THANK YOU to the Jimmerson's for the TRIBUTE, for their service, and more importantly for the visual reminder of the real reason of Memorial Day.
THANKS to all who have served and are serving. And to the families who have lost loved ones like the Barfields and Whitehurst, THANKS and GOD BLESS EACH OF YOU.
