Toxic Gas at Birmingham Water Treatment Plant Sends 14 Workers to Hospitals

BIRMINGHAM: An incident involving hazardous materials at a Birmingham water treatment plant off U.S. 280 has sent at least 14 people to Birmingham area hospitals.


More may have been injured, said Battalion Chief Sebastian Carrillo of the Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service.


The workers were injured when sodium hydrochloride mixed with ferric sulfate creating a toxic gas, Carillo said.
