HOUSTON COUNTY:    This morning Houston County Sheriff 911 dispatched emergency units to Antioch Church Road off Rocky Creek Road near Ashford to a burn patient.

Houston County Sheriff Deputy Chuck Gray was the first officer on the scene. A quick look at the patient Deputy Gray requested Haynes Life Flight be auto launched due to the severity of the patient. The patient had 50% of his upper body with burns.

Ashford Fire and Ashford Rescue responded to the scene along with Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management.

A landing zone was established as Ashford Rescue initiated treatment. When Haynes Life Flight landed they entered the ambulance examining the patient and beginning advanced life support treatment.

The flight medics were able to sedate the young man where he was knocked out due to the severity of the injuries. A decision had to be made to ground transport the patient to SAMC where he was later air transported to a Birmingham burn center.

Normally burn patients are flown directly from the scene to a burn patient. One patient from a wreck was flown directly from the scene at Fadette to Birmingham in just one hour and seven minutes.

Ashford Fire Chief Jimmy Posey talked with the Alabama State Fire Marshall concerning the incident. Initial scene photographs were take and information sent to the State Fire Marshall.

Houston County Sheriff Deputy Gray contacted Criminal Division of Houston County Sheriff Department concerning the incident.

The initial investigation is gasoline was involved. After the burns and while on fire the young man jumped into an above ground swimming pool. He was then found by his mother.

Great response by the volunteers serving their community. Quick action and observations by Deputy Gray in launching air units to the scene.
