HOUSTON COUNTY: For over a decade Memphis Baptist Church has been involved in the UPWARD BASKETBALL MINISTRIES.
Hundreds of boys and girls have come through the UPWARD PROGRAMS at Memphis. And it takes many people to put the games on.
From the organizers who manage the program, the prayer partners which begin 100 days from when the program begins, the coaches and cheer leader sponsors, the ones who manage the tunnel for the children to run out of as their names are called, the referees, the concession, the greeters. A lot of parents and grandparents, and some with no children in the program, coming together in a ministry.
While the kids are taught some fundamentals of the game of basketball the goal is to expose the children, parents, grandparents, and those watching to Christ. The kids have a brief Bible Study each practice game.
The day of the game different people from all walks of life give a brief testimony or share a message that GOD has laid on their heart.
The games begin at 8 AM and run through noon each Saturday. These is Brantley's second year playing. And his game is a 8 AM game. He has fun and enjoys it, even though sometimes he day dreams during the game.
THANKS to each and every person that has played a role in more than a decade of making UPWARD MINISTRIES a success at Memphis Baptist Church.
Other churches, such as Bethel Baptist Church, has UPWARD MINISTRIES. A great program that exposes children at a young age to the sport, but more importantly to JESUS CHRIST.
