Dothan, AL -- The Wallace Community College (WCC) Developmental Math department recently received a $700 donation from Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) as part of the company’s 2018 School Donation Program. The SEL program’s mission is to inspire a lifelong love of learning in science and mathematics.

The WCC Developmental Math department plans to use the funds to enhance the existing program with new software and hardware to help meet the increasing needs of providing mathematics tutorial and testing services for the College’s community. Wallace students utilize the math lab for assistance with classwork and test preparation in various levels of math coursework offered at WCC from developmental courses to Calculus.

The Dothan and Sparks campuses employ five full time faculty and staff members and five part time assistants in addition to several peer tutors who are all eager to assist students every day.

“The WCC Developmental Math department is thankful to Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories for this donation,” said Cathy Ray, division director. “By showing their commitment to developing the next generation of innovators, Schweitzer has shown that they value the community in which they do business. We appreciate their commitment in developing the next generation of innovators and inventors through the support of science, technology, engineering, and math education.”

A 100 percent employee-owned company headquartered in Pullman, Washington, SEL is one of the top leaders in the power industry worldwide. Their mission is simple: to make electric power safer, more reliable, and more economical.

While SEL is busy in the power industry, the company remains extremely committed to its corporate values that guide business activities with “Community” ranking as a top value. SEL employees have input into the donations given to organizations that affect local communities. SEL maintains a growing office in Dothan.
