DOTHAN, AL- George Wallace, Jr., son of former Alabama governors George C. Wallace and Lurleen Wallace, will be in Dothan, Alabama on April 13th to talk about his family history and sing favorite songs of the South. The event, entitled, An Evening With George Wallace, Jr., Songs and Stories presented by Chord Buddy will take place at the 8th annual Tri-State BBQ Festival on Saturday April 13th at 7:00 PM. There is no additional admission fee for the show as it is included in the Saturday admission ticket to the festival, which is just $10.


George Wallace, Jr., a noted musician in his own right, spent many years in the 1970’s recording and touring. He was the opening act for Hank Williams, Jr. for a time, and has several other notable musical credits under his belt as a performer. He recently penned a book about his family entitled, “ Governor George Wallace, The Man You Never Knew, which has been well received as both a historical account and a memoir.


An Evening With George Wallace, Jr., Songs and Stories presented by Chord Buddy will take place in a covered tent with a low stage, which should create an intimate environment for spectators to enjoy the songs and stories.  While there will be a limited number of tables and chairs set up, attendees are encouraged to bring a chair to ensure seating is available. Sponsors of the Tri-State BBQ Festival will have access to the backstage area and the meet and greet before the event. Mr. Wallace will also have copies of his book available after the performance, and will autograph those if desired.


The Tri-State BBQ Festival is a sanctioned barbecue competition, offering over $11,000 in prize money to professional and backyard competitors. During the day Saturday, spectators can sample barbecue during the people’s choice competition (2:30-4pm) and enjoy shopping at the various arts, crafts, and food-related vendors. Also on Saturday there will be a huge car show from 10am- 2pm, and live music from 11am until the barbecue awards at 5:30 pm. The children’s free inflatables and play area is open both days, Friday, April 12th  from 5-10pm and Saturday April 13th from 10am-10pm.


Advance weekend passes are good for both the BBQ Bash on Friday night and also for admission Saturday are just $10 through March 31st. After that time, it is $10 per day for adults, and $5 for senior citizens, students and active duty military (ID required). Children 6 and under are free both days, and no ticket is needed.
