To the Family of Lt. Tommy Martin, I would like to express my deepest sympathy for the loss of a great man, friend and co-worker. As most of you know, Tommy and I grew up together in the small community of Madrid, Alabama where we attended Madrid Elementary School then off to Rehobeth High School until graduation. Tommy was a couple of years older than me and after graduation we both pursued careers in Law Enforcement, which we both enjoyed. Tommy started a couple of years ahead of me with the Dothan Police Department in the early 1970's where we worked together for 25 years of his 33 year term. During this time, we first worked in patrol as partners then Tommy was promoted to squad commander Lt. and I was promoted to squad commander Sgt., where we worked in patrol for 20 of the 25 years of my service. During our years together we became the best of friends. Tommy was a very honest, hardworking, dedicated officer and squad leader. He treated his fellow officers with respect and dignity. He loved his job and was dedicated to serving the City of Dothan, the citizens, and most importantly the Dothan Police Department. Unfortunately, as in any type of job, in law enforcement you have someone every now and then that looks at you as the enemy, which included co-workers. Regardless, Tommy would extend his hand to help anyone in need because that was the type of man he was. He was a very professional officer, co-worker, husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend that loved everyone. I know that his family and friends were very important to him and that they are very proud of all the accomplishments that he worked so hard to receive. My heart is very heavy for the loss of a great man and best friend. The City of Dothan and Houston County has lost a very special man and those who knew him would agree. I pray that Tommy will never be forgotten and will stay in everyone's hearts and minds forever. I will most certainally not forget the amazing man he was and I pray that God blesses and helps his family get through this time of sorrow and grief. I would personally like to say Thank You to Lt. Tommy Martin for sharing your life with me and my family. We will NEVER forget you and our love is with you and your family always. With my deepest sympathy,Retired Sgt. Donald Harden and family
