Alan William Longshore (61 years old) passed away at home in Dothan, AL on January 21, 2017. His untimely passing was due to complications of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) (Lou Gehrig's Disease) diagnosed in late 2015.


Mr. Longshore was born August 2, 1955 in Marietta, GA to James Aulbert Longshore and Betty Jo (McPherson) Longshore. Alan was the third of four brothers (James Aulbert Longshore, Jr. of Bremen, GA; the late Stephen Conner Longshore of Millbrook, AL; and Keith David Longshore of Albuquerque, NM). Alan was a 1973 graduate of Gadsden High School and a 1981 graduate of Jacksonville State University (B.S. Chemistry). Alan was married to Carla Longshore (Newton) of Dothan. Carla and Alan were married February 21, 2011 in Donalsonville, GA.


Alan was an avid golfer and beach goer, gospel music fan and loved his Auburn tigers. His employment includes a Veteran of the United States Air Force, a former USDA employee, a former US Army Chemical School and Maneuver Support Center (MANSCEN) employee, an entrepreneur of Certified Network Solutions in Anniston, AL; and most recently a retiree of the US Army Combat Readiness/Safety Center at Fort Rucker, AL. Alan also served as Choir Director at Calvary Baptist Church in Cottonwood, AL and Pathway Baptist Church in Dothan, AL. Various places of residence include Dothan and Alexandria in AL; St. James in MO; Sacramento and Riverside in CA.


Alan is survived by his wife, Carla; his son Austin Longshore of Atlanta, GA; his mother, Betty; mother-in-law Glenda Newton; brothers Jim (Charlotte) and Keith (Karen) Longshore; step-children Richard Hanberg (Jennifer Linberg), Renée Williams, and Caitlyn (Taylor) Robison; nephews Chris, Brian, and Justin Longshore; niece Lindsay; four step-grandchildren.


Funeral services will begin at 12:00pm CST on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Park Funeral Home 1700 Barrington Road Midland City, AL 36350. Officiating will be Tommy White and Karl Hudson. Pallbearers are: Keith Longshore, Justin Longshore, Richard Hanberg, Taylor Robison, Jim Newton, Matt Newton. Honorary pallbearers are: Jim Longshore, Chris Longshore, Brian Longshore, Walter Studdard, Jerry Curry, Kenneth Miller, and Tommy Haynes. Visitation will begin at 10:00am, Graveside Services and interment will immediately follow with a brief reception provided by Calvary Baptist after. The family is requesting donations in lieu of flowers to the ALS Foundation or American Heart Association.
