Mr. Alvie D. (A.D.) Hughes of Chancellor passed away on Monday, June 12, 2017 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.  He was 85.

 

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2017 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory in Enterprise with Rev. Randall Pearson and Rev. Earl Wise officiating.  Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 – 8 p.m.

 

Mr. Hughes was born January 15, 1932, in Coffee County, to the late John D. and Minnie Bell Jackson Hughes.  He worked as an aircraft mechanic at Ft. Rucker for 29 years and was the owner of A.D. Hughes Well Drilling for over 35 years.  He was dedicated to his well customers as well as to his family.

 

In addition to his parents, his step-mother, four brothers, two sisters, and a daughter-in-law preceded him in death.

 

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Hazel J. Hughes of Chancellor; two sons, Hayward Hughes and David Hughes (Theresa) of Chancellor; three daughters: Carolyn Tidwell (Johnny) of Chancellor, Teresa Donaldson (Van) of Enterprise, and Janet Carnley (Leroy) of Elba; three brothers: John Bell Hughes of Enterprise, Harrison Hughes of Opp, Wendell Hughes of Enterprise; two sisters: Vonnie Lee of Enterprise and Jessie Johnson of Enterprise; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
