TAMPA, FLORIDA . . . Bennie Graggs Harris, a native of Haleburg, died Thursday, March 9, 2017, in the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, Florida. He was 68.


            Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 25, 2017 in the Calvary Baptist Church, Abbeville, Alabama  with Reverend Teddy Ward officiating and a eulogy to be given by Dr. Richard Worsham. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:00 A.M. in the sanctuary of Calvary Baptist Church.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church “Youth Fund”, 310 Dothan Road, Abbeville, AL 36310.


            Mr. Harris was born and reared in Haleburg, son of the late Arthur Lee Harris and Mary Evelyn Dukes Harris. He was a 1966 graduate of the Houston County High School, Columbia, and attended Wallace Community College. Mr. Harris lived most of his lifetime in Henry County before moving to Florida. He was a member of the Haleburg Baptist Church. In earlier years, Mr. Harris was engaged in farming and assisted in the operation of the Gold Kist Peanut Buying Point in Haleburg. He was preceded in death by a son, Benjamin Brown Harris and a sister, Micki Wallace.


            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Jennifer Harris Wilson (Nick), Abbeville; four sisters, Maxine Carter, Haleburg; Patsy Crenshaw, Dothan; JoAnn Elliott (Dwain), Columbia; and Delane Worsham (Richard), Niceville, FL; three grandchildren, Coryn Turner, Tessa Wilson and Reid Wilson; several nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Andy Wallace.
