HEADLAND….Betty Mitchell Palmer, a resident of the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility, Abbeville, and former resident of Headland, died Sunday morning, May 21, 2017, in a Dothan hospital. She was 85.



            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 24, 2017, in the Worship Center of First Baptist Church in Headland with Dr. Cecil M. Sanders, Jr. and Reverend Mike Wehner officiating. Burial will follow in the Headland First Baptist Church Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations will be in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. in the Worship Center.



            In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Graceville Assembly of God Church, 5565 Brown Street, Graceville, FL 32440.



            Mrs. Palmer, daughter of the late George Edward Kirkland and Rhoda Stevens Kirkland, was a native of Graceville, Florida. She formerly lived in Webb and Pansey before moving to Headland in 1992. Mrs. Palmer was retired as the Bookkeeper for Speigner Block Company of Dothan and was affiliated with the First Baptist Church of Headland. She was preceded in death by her husbands, William Thad (Bill) Mitchell and Robert Palmer; a sister, Jeanette Corbitt; a brother, Rondel Kirkland; and a son-in-law, Paul Corbitt.



            Surviving relatives include two daughters, Patsy Mitchell Hodges (Larry),Orlando, FL, Elsie Mitchell Monk (Bobby), Madison, GA; one son, Andy Mitchell (Lillian), Headland; a sister, Janie Franklin (Billy), Slocomb; a brother, Richard Kirkland (Celia), Pottsboro, TX; five grandchildren, Paula Trent (Mike), Aubrey Corbitt, Molly Rigoloso (Justin), Kelly Somogy (T.C.), and Robby Monk (Jamie); ten great-grandchildren; and several special nieces and nephews.



            Serving as active pallbearers will be Tim Johnson, Steve Culbreth, Bobby Camp, Doug Kirkland, Robby Monk and Justin Rigoloso.
