Mr. Billy “Joe” Rice, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Saturday, February 3rd, 2018 at Ozark Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was 82. 

Funeral services will be held at at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Chaplain Eddie Biss officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Flowers are being accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Kindred Hospice, 2740 Headland Ave., Dothan, AL 36303

Mr. Rice was born on October 6, 1935 in Pinckard, Alabama and grew up in the Wiregrass Area. He worked for AAA Cooper in several different cities until his retirement. He enjoyed Alabama football and spending time at the beach. 

Mr. Rice is predeceased by his parents Jessie Ralph and Luta Gibson Rice, his wife of almost sixty years Sara Ziglar Rice, his brothers Lee Rice, James Rice, and Frank Rice, his sister Charlotte Stern, and granddaughter Lori Rice Bryan. 

Survivors include his son Mike Rice and his daughter Melanie Clark (Greg), all of Dothan; two sisters, Patsy Keane and Brenda Grizzle, both of Texas, sister-in-law Glenda Carlson of Dothan, brother-in-law Les Stern of Texas, grandchildren Kristin Green (Chip) of Jacksonville, Florida, Garrett Clark of Austin, Texas, Haley Solomon (Archie) of Dothan, and Kelvin Rice (Madie) of Dothan, great grandchildren Koren and L.E. Green and Mills Solomon, as well as several nieces and nephews. 

Serving as pallbearers will be Randy Green, Robert Pflug, Kelvin Rice, Greg Rife, Archie Solomon, and Paris Walker. 

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Kindred Hospice and to Paris Walker for their loving care of Mr. Rice.
