Billy Guinn Penny, 85, of Valdosta, GA, passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, GA.


Mr. Penny was born in Alexandria, LA on September 1, 1932 to the late Ivy Dewey Penny and Lela Margie Smith Penny. He served in the U.S. Army for 2 years where he was a member of the 47th Division Band. After the army he was in sales and sales management for American Supply Co. in Alexandria/Ruston, LA., and then later owned and operated Penn Insulation in Valdosta, GA.


He was married for 63 years to his loving wife Mary Helen Carr Penny, formerly of Enterprise, Alabama. Mr. Penny loved to play golf and spend time outdoors either fishing or working on the farm. He loved his family and was of the Baptist faith.


Mr. Penny is survived by his wife Mary Helen, of Valdosta, his daughter Phyllis (Johnny) Lightsey, of Hahira, his grandchildren, Charlie Michael Teepell (Jessie) of Pooler, GA, Jonathan Penny (Michelle), of Chicago, IL, Maricatherine Penny, of Sacramento, CA, his great grandchildren, William Penny, Charlie Penny, and Marty Penny, all of Chicago, IL. Mr. Penny was preceded in death by his son Robert Wesley Penny, his parents, one brother and sister-in-law Wallace and Babs Penny, and one sister Margie Woodson.
