 Brenda M. Grimsley age 70 of Dothan passed away Sunday morning, June 24, 2018 at a Dothan hospital following a brief illness.


Celebration of Life services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 30, 2018 in the Family First Funeral Care Chapel, 965 Woodland Drive, Dothan, with  Reverend Glenda Davis officiating. Visitation will precede at 12:30 P.M. until service time.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Spiritual Enrichment Center of Dothan, 942 South Oates Street, Dothan 36301 or Catholic Social Services, 557 West Main Street, Dothan 36301.


Brenda was born May 21, 1948 in Galax, Virginia to Arnold and Ida Burcham. She graduated from high school there and developed a love for nature and animals, especially horses. It was there Brenda met and married Robert Gartlan and then moved to the Dothan area where she raised her sons Patrick and Aaron.


Having a big heart for people, Brenda received certifications and training working as a respiratory technician and medical assistant. In 1983, she married Dr. George Grimsley and later became the office manager and chiropractic assistant for Grimsley Chiropractic where she enjoyed comforting their patients.


From the beginning to the end of her life, God and spirituality were important to Brenda. She spent many hours in study and prayer. Remaining faithful, she assured her family and friends that she was at peace and all was well with her soul.


Brenda is survived by her husband Dr. George Grimsley of Dothan; two sons Patrick Gartlan (Anna) of Australia and Aaron Gartlan (Suzanne) of Dothan, also grandchildren Carlton Mueller of Colorado, Ashton Mueller and Alexa Grace Mueller. Other survivors include her mother, Ida Mazzeo, brother Larry Burcham (Paula) of Newton, nieces Misty (Mike) Cherry and Kristy (Patrick) Barefield and great nieces Madelyn Cherry and Reese Barefield. She is preceded in death by her father Arnold and stepfather Michael Mazzeo.
