Capt. Bryan David Alloway (US Army Ret.), a resident of Ashford passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at a local hospital. He was 71 years old.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Grandview Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Grimes officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at Grandview Baptist Church. At other times, friends are welcomed at the Alloway home. Flowers are being accepted or memorial donations may be made to Folds of Honor, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or the Shriners.


Mr. Alloway was born July 10, 1947 in Pittsburgh, PA where he spent the early part of his life. He moved to Birmingham, AL where he attended Ramsey High School lettering in baseball, basketball, football and track. After graduating in 1965, Bryan received his draft notice from the U.S. Army and attended boot camp at Ft. Benning. He then entered Officer Candidate School at Ft. Knox. He graduated from flight school in 1968. During his tour in Vietnam he was a Scout Pilot and flew with the Air Calvary. He received the Silver Star, Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross, as well as many other medals. Following his war service, he received his B.S. Degree in Aeronautical Science in 1975 and had credits toward his Master’s in Aviation Management. Bryan was medically retired from the U.S. Army in 1979.


In 1982, he moved to Ashford. This is when Bryan met Becky and in 1985 the two were married. He was well-known for being a constant perfectionist and his ability to build or fix anything. Bryan served as a Houston County Constable from 1992-1994. He was elected and served as Mayor of Ashford from 2000-2008. He loved playing golf with his family and friends. He was also an avid Alabama fan. Bryan was Baptist by faith and a member of Grandview Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, Noel and Elizabeth Alloway, brother, Kevin Alloway and his sisters, Sandra Harper and Karen Louceano.


Survivors include his wife, Becky Alloway; his daughter, Angel (Todd) Shelley; his son, Keith (April) Alford; grandchildren, Hudson (Savannah) Shelley, Haisten Shelley, Emma, Zane, Zeke, and Ellie Alford; brothers, Wayne and Scott Alloway; several nieces and nephews; and his K-9 sidekick, Sweetie.
