Captain Gary W. Patton, US Army (Retired), 77, of Ozark passed away October 17, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his family.


Funeral service will be held Friday at 2:00pm in the Earl Bankston Memorial Chapel at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home in Ozark, AL. with Pastor Jim Hill officiating.  Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home.  Burial will follow the funeral service on Friday at Woodlawn Memory Gardens in Ozark with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing.


Gary was a 1957 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.  He joined the Army, serving two tours in Vietnam and retired in 1977 after twenty years of service.  Following the Army, Gary worked and retired from the Michelin Tire Plant in Dothan, AL.  After his retirement, he and his loving wife of 43 years, Ann, traveled the United States extensively.  Gary was an avid fisherman and he also enjoyed wood working and working in his yard.


Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Richard N. and Ruby A. Patton of Dix, Illinois.


He is survived by daughters Sandra Motl (Don) of Belton TX, Sharon Meacham (Billy) of Ozark, AL, Linda Patten (Fiance’ Stan Vickers) of Ozark, AL, and Diane Herzog (Harold) of Temple, TX; sons Randy Patton (Louise) of Academy, TX and Mike Ruckman (Susan) of Americus, GA.  He is also survived by twenty-eight grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made to Covenant Care Hospice, 1512 W. Main St., Dothan, AL 36301.
