Major Carl Walter Gibes, United States AFRES (Retired), passed away Sunday, April 8, 2018, at Medical Center Enterprise.  He was 101.

 

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at St. John Catholic Church.  Burial will follow at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory in Enterprise on Wednesday from 5 – 7 p.m.

 

Carl was born May 22, 1916, in Chicago, IL.  He retired as Director of Personnel from the Chicago Transit Authority after 31 years of service.  He was a WWII veteran, and served as a flight instructor prior to his retirement after 30 years in the United States Air Force Reserve.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Retired Officers Association.  He was also a member of St. John Catholic Church.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Zofia Kabat Gibes; his wife of 66 years, Hildegarde R. Sebeczek Gibes; and two sisters, Wanda Girrard and Lillian Pollins.

 

Survivors include his daughter, Shirley Ann Lunsdon (Mark); son, Ronald C. Gibes; grandson: Ronald C. Gibes II (Erica); and two great-grandsons: Crews Gibes and Trace Gibes.
