DOTHAN. . .Carolyn Thompson Bowdon, a resident of Dothan, died Tuesday night, May 16, 2017,  in Westside Terrace. She was 85.

            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 19, 2017, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Doug MacCormack officiating. Burial will follow in the Columbia City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Friday at the mortuary.

            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Baptist Church Building Fund, 2574 Westgate Parkway, Dothan, AL 36303 or Covenant Care, 1512 West Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301.

            Mrs. Bowdon was born and reared in the Sylvan Grove community, near Midland City, daughter of the late Frank Alexander Thompson and Lillian Pearl Stephens Thompson. She formerly lived in Columbia and Midland City before moving to Dothan in 2010. Mrs. Bowdon was retired as the owner and operator of Carol’s Beauty Shop in Columbia. She was preceded in death by the father of her children, Arthur Dearl Snell and her second husband, John M. Bowdon, seven brothers, Garland Thompson, Allen Thompson, Gayle Thompson, Rhodes Thompson, Stanton Thompson, James Thompson and George Thompson, a sister, Betty Jo West, and an infant sister.

            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Sherry Snell Holland and husband, Robert D. (Bob) Holland, Dothan; a son, Arthur Darren Snell, DeFuniak Springs, FL; a sister, Jennie Lindeman, Ozark; a brother, Frank Thompson, Headland; a sister-in-law, Effie Thompson, Grimes, AL; three grandchildren, Christy Nowell Glass (Vance), Kendra Nowell Stewart (Dwayne), and Ashley Smith; four great-grandchildren, Chad Glass (Kalie), Jessica Glass, Anna Stewart and Garrison Stewart.

            Serving as active pallbearers will be Stan West, Chad Glass, Mike West, Wesley Thompson, Roland Thompson and Garrison Stewart.

            The family would like to express their appreciation to the nurses and staff of Westside Terrace for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Bowdon.
