Carrie Evelyn Williams Striplin passed away on November 10, 2018 just five short months after her 93rd birthday. Born in Columbus, Georgia, living most of her life in the Atlanta, Georgia area and Clayhatchee Alabama, her love was her family. She passed away near Orlando, Florida where she lived with daughter Nina Cook.


Evelyn graduated from Atlanta’s Girls High School, Atlanta, Georgia in 1943. Following the Williams family tradition she began her working career with Southern Bell Telephone & Telegraph Company. Evelyn worked for the SBT&T Company from 1942 until the birth of her son Jerry in 1948. She remained home from 1948 through 1966 raising four kids, submerged in church youth functions, supporting Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, school sports, school band and ROTC programs. Her strongest connection to the community was her beloved Park Avenue Baptist Church. She returned to the SBT&T Company in 1966 and worked until her retirement in 1988 when she retired to take care of her mother.


She is preceded in death by her father Daniel M Williams, Sr and mother Carrie V Jones Williams. Her six siblings also preceded her in death: Dan M Williams, Jr, Kathryn Williams, Ted and Fred Williams, Bettie Jo Polson, and Emma Ree Scobie. The last of their generation is Evelyn’s sister-in-law Phyllis Williams now living in Kentucky.


Evelyn was married to James C. Striplin (passed 2015) from 1947 to 1976. She was the proud mother of C Stan Striplin, Jerry M Striplin, Mike Cash Striplin and Nina R Cook. She has a total of 18 great-grandchildren and     (5) {great-great-grandchildren}. Evelyn’s grandchildren from Stan are Becky Bowen and Matthew S Striplin. Grandchildren from Jerry are Michele Bedingfield and Scott Striplin. Grandchildren from Nina Cook are Lori Bray and Randall Gilbert. Great-great-grandchildren are: Bowen’s are Nicholas Scott {Cadence Rose, Arianna Grace}, Andrew Edward, Zachary Daniel, and David Jeremy {Scottlyn Kate Bowen}; Bedingfield’s are Kyla Nicole, Hamilton Lee, and Kathryn Elizabeth; Scott Striplin’s are Kirstin Ashley Striplin Burns {Jagger Adam Burns, Jepp Alexander Burns}, Megan Faith, and Cheyanne Marie; Bray’s are Russell Scott, Rostin Locke, Noah Engler, James David and Hannah Marie; Gilbert’s are Gordon Cash, Brooks Warner, and Colson Alan.


Evelyn also has many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews throughout the US. Daniel M Williams III (KY), Mark Williams (CA), Frank Williams (GA), Patricia Williams Mercaldo (NC), Pamela Williams (IL), Diane Williams Huff (KY), Kathy Williams Brown (KY), Ted Williams (KY), Larry Williams (KY), Georgia Polson Brogdon (SC), Jack Scobie (AL) and Carrie Scobie (AL).


The family will be accepting visitation at Clayhatchee’s Providence Baptist Church on Sunday November 18, 2018 between 1:30 pm and 2:30 pm with the service following at 2:30 pm. She will be laid to rest next to her sister Kathryn and her mother and father at the Providence Church cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, Evelyn would prefer a donation to the Providence Baptist Church, 10 Providence Lane, Daleville, Alabama, 36322 or Harmony House Domestic Violence Center, PO Box 2925, LaGrange, GA 30241.
