Catharine Tate of Chancellor passed away on May 7, 2017.  She was 86.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, in the chapel of Pittman Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. John McCrummen officiating.  Burial will follow at Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends prior to the service on Wednesday, beginning at 10:00 a.m. 


 


The sixth of ten children, Mrs. Tate was born in Coffee County on February 18, 1931, to the late Boss and Cora Brown.  Following her husband’s retirement from Alabama Power, the two of them raised and sold fish bait in the Chancellor Community for many years.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Tate; son, William Tate; daughter, Brenda Tate Adams; brother, Rufus Brown; and three sisters, Eloise Adkison, Mary Alice Baxter and Bernice Wilson.


 


She is survived by her daughter, Janice Gauvin of Providence, RI; nine grandchildren; three brothers, Cecil Brown, Billy Charles Brown and Bennie Brown, all of Chancellor; and her sister, Jean Burgett of Robertsdale, AL.
