CHARLES  FRANK  BENTON



ABBEVILLE. . .Charles Frank Benton, a resident of Abbeville, died Sunday morning, December 2, 2018, at his home. He was 87.


            Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 4, 2018, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Minister Thomas May and Minister Terry Benton officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday in the Loflin Baptist Church Cemetery in the Josie Community of Pike County. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at the mortuary in Abbeville.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
            Mr. Benton was born and reared in Pike County, near the Josie Community, son of the late Walter Henry Benton and Allie Jane Dawkins Benton. He formerly lived in Union Springs before moving to Abbeville in 1972. Mr. Benton was a member of the Henry County Church of Christ. He was retired as a truck driver from Signal Delivery Service of Atlanta, which was contracted by Sears.  In earlier years, Mr. Benton was employed by Georgia Highway Express, the Welsh Company of Union Springs and Bullock County Propane Gas Company. After retirement, he was employed by the Reliance Propane Gas Company of Abbeville. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Annie Belle Fuller and Carmye Austin and two brothers, Fred Benton and Ezra Benton, a grandson, Brad Benton and a step-grandson, Andy Whitehead.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Myrtice Harrison Benton; a daughter, Brenda Benton (Gary Whitehead), Abbeville; two sons, Mike Benton (Kitty), Troy; and Terry W. Benton (Anne), Lexington, SC; two sisters, Melia Wilks and Evelyn Brown, both of Phenix City; two brothers, Harry Benton (Becky), Phenix City and Vernon Benton (Jeanette), Montgomery; five grandchildren, Shannon Giles (Sterlin), Laura Benton, Kristi Kitchens (Doug), Thad Benton (Holly) and Amanda Smothers (John); three step-grandchildren, Chris Gilmer (Angie), Melanie Skelton (Brian) and Tonya Day (Benjamin); eight great-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren.  


            Serving as active pallbearers, Benton Maddox, Doug Kitchens, Sterlin Giles, Thad Benton, Gary Carter, Jr. and John Smothers.
