ASHFORD. . .Charles Ray Hopkins, a resident of Ashford, died Tuesday morning, October 24, 2017, at his home. He was 89.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 27, 2017, in the Cedar Springs Baptist Church, near Ashford, with Reverend Don Tew officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P. M. Thursday at the mortuary in Headland.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cedar Springs Baptist Church, c/o John W. King, Jr., 974 Jack Bruner Road, Ashford, AL 36312 or Kindred Hospice, 2740 Headland Avenue, Dothan, AL 36303 or to a favorite charity.


            Mr. Hopkins was a lifelong resident of Ashford, son of the late Coy Hopkins and Veola Hunter Hopkins. He was a member of the Cedar Springs Baptist Church and the Ashford Masonic Lodge. Mr. Hopkins formerly co-owned and operated Rainbow Farm Center and Thomas & Hopkins Peanut Company. He was also engaged in farming all his adult lifetime. Mr. Hopkins was preceded in death by four sisters and five brothers.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Sarah Ward Hopkins; two daughters, Jacqueline Hopkins King (Johnny), Ashford; and Tammie Hopkins Powers, Ozark, formerly of Dothan; a son, Tim Hopkins, Ashford; three grandchildren, Brad King (Kelly), Tyler King and Caroline Stinson (Donnie, Jr.); three great-grandchildren, Chase King, Jaiden King and Collier King; sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Pat Hopkins, LouVera and J. W. Andrews, Ruth Ward and Hilda Ward; numerous nieces and nephews.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Brad King, Tyler King, Donnie Stinson, Jerry Johnson, Larry McArdle and Brock Baxley.


            The family would like to express their appreciation to Kindred Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Mr. Hopkins during his illness.
