Cynthia Ann Skipper Petty, 58, of Grimes, AL, passed away at her home at 16 Riverview, Newton, AL on Sunday, May 27, 2018.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Glover and Rev. Scott Cox officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10-11 am.

Cynthia was born at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, AL on August 21, 1959, the first child of Jimmy Clark and Sara (Johnson) Skipper. She played the flute in the DCHS Band and graduated from Dale County High School in 1977. Cynthia would then graduate from Wallace Community College School of Cosmetology and worked at Kutt Above for many years. She also worked with Kerry Brownlee and TG&Y and Hobart Plumbing. Cynthia spent an exciting childhood in Grimes, AL and moved with her family in 1973 to the Jelico Community just south of Drew Bridge. She lived a short time in Wicksburg before moving back to Grimes where she lived until 2017. Cynthia loved her animals. Many of them died when her house in Grimes burned. Rosie, Gus, Chicka, Angel, and especially her protector, Missy, made her life a joy. Cynthia was known by her PaPa (Buell) as “Rilla Dilla”. She was a big tease and loved to play jokes and have them played on her. In high school she drove a green Volkswagen her Dad had painted for her. Some of her classmates put it between 2 silos near school.

Cynthia was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Buell Don and Clara (Stevens) Johnson, her paternal grandparents, H. C. and Merle (Clark) Skipper, her uncles, Ben and Suzanne Johnson, Don and Nan Johnson, and by her cousin, Mike Johnson.

Survivors include her parents, Jimmy and Sara Skipper; her sister, Connie (Scott) Kirkland; her brother, Clark (Cheryl) Skipper; her nephew, Garrett West; her great niece, Alana Renee West; her uncles, Joe Skipper and John (Judy) Skipper; and numerous cousins and friends.

The family wishes to give a special thank you to Jamie Gilley, Latasha, Samantha, Michelle, and Dr. Duke for their care, and to Scot Thompson and Robert Allen (her physical therapists at Hartford Health and Rehabilitation) for helping Cindy to walk. Thanks to Billy Morrow, Herb Buie, and J. R. Daughtry for building Cindy a porch when she moved. A special thanks to her friends Donna Boyette, Claudia Strickland, Faye Scott, and Cheryl Skipper for their concern and support.

Robert Byrd of Sunset Funeral Home, (334) 983-6604, is in charge of arrangements. Please call us or visit www.SunsetMemorialPark.com for more information.
