Don Edwin Nichols, Sr., 77, of the Midway Community, near Clayhatchee, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2017.


Funeral services will be held at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel in Enterprise on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Harold Peters and Rev. Gary Keown officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. 


Don was born on April 2, 1940 to the late Robert E. Nichols and Lois Long Nichols.  He was a faithful member of Midway Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and church treasurer for many years.  He farmed most of his adult life and was an excellent farmer.  He enjoyed gardening after his retirement.  He loved sharing the bounty with his friends and family.


Don doted on his four grandchildren and “Pa” loved giving them rides on his golf cart. 


He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Martha (Martie) Hubbard Nichols, formerly of Ozark; son, Ed (Dana) Nichols of Rehobeth; daughter, Laura (Dan) Bowden of Malvern; grandchildren, Allyson and Grayson Nichols, Thomas and Erin Bowden; sister, Ruby (Leon) Dansby of Ozark.  Also included are sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Helen (the late, Bill) Reeder of Elba; Tom (Nancy) Hubbard of Montgomery; George (Monica) Hubbard of Auburn; Susan (Dave) Kenny of Ozark and many nieces and nephews.


In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Providence Cemetery, 10 Providence Lane, Daleville, AL 36322 or Shiloh Cemetery, % Pam Osborn, 4716 Camp Ground Road, Ozark, AL 36360.
