Donald C. Holleman, affectionately known as “PawPaw Don”, age 95, of Dothan passed away Sunday June 5, 2016 at his daughter’s residence.


Funeral services will be held 2 pm Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kyle Gatlin officiating. Burial will follow in Liveoak Park Memorial Cemetery in Crestview, FL with Sunset Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 pm prior to the service.


Mr. Holleman was born in Rebecca, GA and resided in Crestview, FL for 84 years. He lived with his daughter in Dothan off and on for the past 11 years until his death. He served in the US Navy from 1942-1945 as a Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class on the Destroyer USS McKee. Donald was employed by Civil Service on Eglin AFB for 32 years as a Supply Supervisor. He was a longtime member of First Methodist Church in Crestview for over 50 years. He enjoyed telling stories about the war and all of the things he was able to experience during his time in the Navy. He wore many hats during his time in the Navy and had a lot of knowledge to share. Donald also had a great passion for Alabama Football, antique automobiles, and loved his family dearly. After retirement, Mr. Holleman and his wife traveled the countryside and enjoyed visiting Navy reunions and reminiscing with fellow Seamen.


He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years Helen M. Holleman, his parents, Dennie Josephine Holleman and Franklin William Holleman, and brother, William Benjamin Holleman.


He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Holleman Noble (Charles); grandson Cameron T. Creel (Kara); great-grandaughter Lucy May Creel; sister Josephine Holleman Hicks (Robert); sisters-in-law Eleanor M Wilson, Sandra Holleman, and numerous nephews and nieces. His extended family Michael & Jessica McGhar, Hayden and Connor McGhar, CJ Noble, Morgan Noble and Caregiver Andii Weeks.
