Donald Havird Speigner Sr.


 


Donald Havird Speigner, Sr. died Monday, February 26, 2018 at Flowers Hospital. He was 82.


The lifelong Dothan resident was a graduate of Dothan High School, attended Marion Military Institute and earned his business degree from the University of Alabama where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.


Following a stint in the U.S. Army, he joined his family’s business, Speigner Marble Company. Through his real estate company, he developed several residential and commercial properities.


Don was an active member of Alabama Jaycees, serving at the local level and as state president in 1963. He enjoyed additional civic activity with the Kiwanis Club, Chamber of Commerce, and Heart Association while working with various political affiliations. He was a member of The Dothan Country Club. Most importantly to him, he was a member of First United Methodist Church of Dothan.


In lieu of food, flowers, or memorial contributions, the family requests that if anyone wishes to recognize Don, they do so by reaching out to an old friend or family member who has meant something in their life.


Don was preceded in death by his parents, Lehman and Ruby Speigner. He is survived by his wife, Glois; his three sons, Don Speigner, Jr., Birmingham, Webb Speigner (Lorri), and Lee Speigner (Jane Leslie), Birmingham; six grandchildren, Sydney Speigner, Hollan Speigner, William Speigner, Addison Speigner, Thomas Speigner, and Amelia Lee Glenn Speigner.


Services will be at Ward Wilson Funeral Home on Thursday, March 1 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be at 10:00 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery. Reverend Allie Freeman will be officiating.
