Donald Peter Goody, a resident of Midland City, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2017. He was 73.


Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, September 14, 2017 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 12-1 pm.


Mr. Goody was born on March 5, 1944 in Parma, Ohio and lived there the early years of his life. Following his graduation from high school he joined the US Army and completed 3 tours in Vietnam. He retired after 24 years in the military and would later work at Flight Safety International at the Dothan Airport for over 20 years until his retirement in 2008. Mr. Goody dedicated a big part of his life to the Boy Scouts, serving for over 27 years. He was awarded the Silver Beaver Award, the Volunteer of the Year Class Award in 2017, served on the Executive Board, served as Assistant Scout Master for Troop 106, a Member of the Order of the Arrow, served on the Eagle Board, and served as Honorary Chairman of an Eagle Scout Class. Mr. Goody was a member of the Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Group, the Harley-Davidson Owners Group (HOG) from Dothan, Alabama. He was a member of Triumphant Cross Lutheran Church.


Mr. Goody was preceded in death by his parents, Peter Goody and Agnes Ptak, by his wife, Judy Goody, and by his brother, John Goody.


Survivors include his wife, Linda Goody; his son, John Goody; his daughters, Christina (Robert) Donald and Sandy Goody; his step-son, Richie (Lisa) Carter; his step-daughter, Sarah Carter; his grandchildren, Brian (Katie) Nowell, Cody Goodson, Hayley Goodson, Dylan Granger, Reanna Carter, Sydney Carter, and Madelyn Carter; his great-grandchildren, Carlynn Nowell and Dakota Goodson.
