Doris Dorinda Glover Maddox, 80, a resident of Dothan, went to be with her Lord Monday, March 19, 2018.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 23, 2018 at Pilgrim Home Baptist Church with the Rev. Buddy Hood officiating.  Burial will follow in Pinckard Memorial Cemetery with Kendall Glover directing.  The family will receive friends at the church from 12 noon until 1:45 on Friday prior to service time.

Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Respite Care Ministries.

Mrs. Maddox was born December 4, 1937 in Pinckard and happily lived the early years of her life there on the family farm.  When Doris was 15 years of age, her mother died unexpectedly.  Although she was valedictorian of her ninth grade class and was a girl with dreams of her own, she dropped out of school and became the mother figure to her five younger brothers and sisters.  She was dutifully committed to raising her siblings, and also went to work in a factory to help support the family financially.  As with everything in her life, she did these things with dignity and grace, without complaint.  She was a woman of exemplary faith.  Her brothers and sisters will never forget the sacrifices she made for them and her presence here will be sorely missed.  After marrying and raising two children of her own, she worked for many years as secretary and bookkeeper at GenCon Associates.

She was an active member of Pilgrim Home Baptist Church.

Mrs. Maddox is preceded in death by her parents, William Stafford and Claudie Peters Glover; a step-Mother, Helen Webb Glover;  a sister, Janice McKnight and her husband, Doc McKnight; two brothers, Roger Max Glover and William Gwen Glover and his wife, Grace Hanners Glover.

Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Wayne R. Maddox of Dothan; two daughters, Lee Ann Roth Gamble (Michael) of Atlanta, GA and Brandi Roth Locke (Steve) of Dothan; a step-daughter, Tammy Collum (Tim) of Douglasville, GA; a step-son, David Maddox (Michelle) of Fort Walton, FL; two brothers, Randall Glover (Sybil) and Reginald “Reg” (Debbie) Glover, all of Wicksburg; a sister-in-law, Francis Glover of Midland City; and two sisters, Glenda Wheeless (Marvin) and Claudia Strickland (Wesley), all of Wicksburg; eight grandchildren, Benjamin Speigner, William Speigner, Anna Claire Speigner, Chris Speigner (Holly), Chris McDonald, Jennifer Posey, Courtney Maddox, and Jacob Maddox; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Active pallbearers will be Jonathan Wheeless, Slade Glover, Tommy Peters, Jason Strickland, Jarrad Glover, and Chris McDonald.

Glover Funeral Home of Dothan has been entrusted with the arrangements.  (334)699-3888.  Please sign the guestbook on line at www.gloverfuneral.com.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the kind staff of Wesley Place, the attentive staff of Covenant Hospice, and the wonderful volunteers and staff at the First United Methodist Church Respite Care Ministry.
