DOTHAN. . .Dr. Chalen J. “Chuck” Campbell, a resident of Dothan, died Sunday afternoon, October 23, 2016, in a Dothan hospital. He was 79.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M Thursday, October 27, 2016, in the Blackwood Church, near Headland, with Reverend Eddie Littlefield, Reverend Alice Burdeshaw and Jeff Druckenmiller officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the mortuary.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Central India Outreach, 15774 South LaGrange, Box 284, Orland Park, Illinois 60462.


            Dr. Campbell was born and reared in southern Illinois, son of the late Chalen Campbell and Dorothy Dossett Campbell. At an early age, he enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served his country during the Korean War. Dr. Campbell was a graduate of Moody Bible College in Chicago where he received his Doctorate of Christian Education. He was a member of the Taylor Assembly of God Church.  Dr. Campbell formerly served as Pastor of several churches including, First Assembly of God of Merrillville, Indiana, Bethel Assembly of God in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Blackwood Church, Headland, and Taylor Assembly of God. In earlier years, he taught at Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. Dr. Campbell was preceded in death by his first wife, Ellen Stickels Campbell, three sisters and three brothers.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Ruth Habbard Campbell, Dothan; two daughters, Jayne Calder (Chris), Headland; and Annette Savvas (Steve), New Port Richey, FL; three step-children, Lynda Faulk (LaDerle), Dothan; Mike Cole, Panama City, FL; and Chris Cole (Sherri), Deland, FL; a sister, Marilyn Hanks, Culvert City, KY; four brothers, Richard Campbell, New Port Richey, FL; Darrell Campbell, Donald Campbell and Larry Campbell, all of Illinois; five grandchildren, Michael Savvas (Chrysoula), Elleni Savvas, George Savvas, Ryan Calder and Zach Calder; and a great-grandson on the way; seven step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Michael Savvas, George Savvas, Steve Savvas, Chris Calder, Ryan Calder and Zach Calder, Mike Cole and Art Habbard.
