Elaine Bowden Merritt of Wetumpka, AL and formerly of Samson, AL passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2016 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was 52.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva, AL with the Rev. Boyd Hartzog and Rev. Perry Neal officiating. Burial will follow in the Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva, AL directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, beginning at 1:00 p.m. and continuing until service time.

Mrs. Merritt was born on January 11, 1964 in Houston County, AL to the late Tarver R. and Ara Meeks Bowden. During her working career she worked as secretary for ABI; as an auditor for the state of Alabama and at the time of her death, she was an auditor for the Alabama Air National Guard. Elaine was an avid animal lover. Elaine loved the Lord, her family and church family and her wish was that they could all be together in heaven. First Baptist Church of Wetumpka was blessed to have had her as a part of their family.   

She is survived by her husband, Byron A. Merritt of Wetumpka, AL; her labrador retrievers, Miller, Carina, and Katey; one sister, Sheila Hartzog (Boyd) of Coffee Springs, AL; mother-in-law, Virginia Merritt of Opp, AL; brother-in-law, Tommy Merritt (Rebecca) of Headland, AL; nieces and nephews, Ashley Wright, Tyler Merritt, David Merritt, Brian Corbin, and Kristina Corbin; very special friend and neighbor, Ellie Mullins of Wetumpka, AL; and a number of special family members including aunts, uncles, and cousins.
