FT. GAINES, GEORGIA. . .Elizabeth Ann Coates Baxter, a resident of Ft. Gaines, Georgia, died early Monday morning, March 6, 2017, in Noland Hospital Dothan. She was 83.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. (EST) Saturday, March 11, 2017, in the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church with Reverend Ralph Estes officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. (EST) Saturday in the church sanctuary.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, P.O. Box 278, Ft. Gaines, GA 39851.


            Ms. Baxter was born and reared in Holmes County, Florida, near Bonifay, daughter of the late John Kermit Coates and Annie Lee Forehand Coates. She moved to Ft. Gaines forty years ago where she was a member of the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. Ms. Baxter was retired as Agent with Georgia Farm Bureau in Ft. Gaines. In earlier years, she was employed by BankSouth in Abbeville and Shorterville.


            Surviving  relatives include three daughters, Sonia Coon (Cliff), Ft.Walton Beach, FL; Suzanne Shivers (Roger), and Sheriee Mathis (Don), all of Ft. Gaines; a son, Jeff Baxter, (Peggy), Metarie, LA; a brother, John Coates (June), Chipley, FL; ten grandchildren, Kim Hellyer (Josh), Trey Coon (Tiffanie), Chris Coon (Leah), Lena Coon, Locke Shivers (Kristie), Becky Truesdale (Eric), Courtney Bradshaw (David), Jaci Weems (Phillip), Regina Baxter and Jacob Baxter; thirteen great-grandchildren.
