Ella Louise Dean, a resident of Midland City, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at a local hospital. She was 72.


Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, April 17, 2017 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Randy Dean officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. The family is accepting flowers or memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3054 McGehee Road, Montgomery, AL 36111.


Mrs. Dean was born on March 4, 1945 in Houston County and has lived the early part of her life in Slocomb. She moved to Midland City in 1964 and has been a resident there since. She was a homemaker and caregiver for many years after working outside the home for a short while. She was a very talented seamstress and enjoyed all types of sewing and needlework including crochet, embroidery, and quilting. Mrs. Dean was a devout Christian and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.


Mrs. Dean was preceded in death by her parents, Noel and Bonnie Mae Dowling, her daughter, Paula Renae Spradley, and by her siblings, Herman Dowling, Willie Frank Dowling, Lloyd Dowling, and Annie Lois Bragg.


Survivors include her husband, Emmett Lathan Dean; her son, Phillip (Cristi) Dean; her son-in-law, Troy (Sabrina) Spradley; her grandchildren, Benjamin (Kaylee) Spradley, Brooke Diane Spradley, Laura Ruth Spradley, Dylan Kyle Dean, and Hanna Nicole Dean; her brother, Charlie (Virginia) Dowling; her sisters, Voncille (James) Wilson and Virginia (Clyde) Thompson; several nieces and nephews.
