Ella Ruth Benefield, a resident of Geneva County, passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at a local hospital. She was 97.


Funeral services will be held at 3 pm on Monday, June 25, 2018 at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Anderson and Rev. Bradley Rushing officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 2-3 pm.


Mrs. Benefield was born on November 6, 1920 and resided in Dothan the early years of her life before relocating to Geneva County in the late 1960’s. She was a homemaker and according to her daughter, Ginny, “has been a good Mama, I loved her”. Mrs. Benefield was an avid gardener and loved to work in her flower beds, raising daylilies, chrysanthemums, and pansies. She was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.


Mrs. Benefield was preceded in death by her husband, I.D. “Bunk” Benefield and her son, Horace Benefield.


Survivors include her daughter, Virginia Ruth Benefield; her sister, Melba (Bill) Capps; and several nieces and nephews.


Serving as active pallbearers will be her nephews and as honorary pallbearers will be The Ruth Sunday School Class.


The family would like to express their appreciation to all the employees with Kindred At Home and Kindred Hospice.
