Long-time Dothan resident Frances Wilson passed into the light on Sunday, April 8, 2018.

She celebrated her 95th birthday two weeks earlier, surrounded by friends and family at Folklore Brewing, one of her favorite places to go dancing. Truth be told, any place with live music and dance floor was her favorite. In younger days, Frances was a jitterbug champion and, later, a square-dancing pro. She always said dancing is what kept her young in body and spirit. And young she was. She lived in her home independently, tending to her garden every day, until nearly the end. Frances will be remembered most for her fun-loving spirit and unique ability to light up every room she entered and heart she encountered. She had a zest for life that was contagious, along with wicked sense of humor and easy laugh.

Many Dothan residents may remember her shop, Frances’ Beauty Salon, open for decades on Main Street, then Southland Drive. Always a trailblazer, Frances advertised her business by hitting the town in fancy dresses with her hair dyed to match. One month the color was blue; the next, it might be purple. Frances delighted in surprise.

Her spirit lives on through two children, daughter Margo Lewis and son Allen Wilson, both of Dothan and four granddaughters, Jessica Simpson, Nicole Windham, MistiJo Jewel Beasley and Rana Wright and five great-grandkids as well as dozens of beloved nieces and nephews and their families. She had plenty of adopted family too, lending everyone in town to affectionately call her “Granny.” Especially close to her heart were Jennifer Culp, David Goodman, Karen and Chuck Higgins, Marie Haar, Natalie Cole and Matt Simpson.

Everyone is invited to celebrate her amazing life, Friday, April 13, 2018 with services and fellowship beginning at 2 P.M. at Harvest Church (2727 Fortner Street), followed by a gathering-maybe even dancing-at Folklore (153 Mary Lou Lane) beginning at 4 P.M. Frances Lucille Wilson made the world a brighter place and her family is forever thankful for her.
